What makes lord of the rings so great

Tolkien even invented an entire language elven for them! He included so much detail and crafted such a wonderful and interesting story that it was still well loved when released in cinemas 50 years later. The story features a number of diversions and twists. It gets split up over the last two books but is superbly brought together by the end. Quite a number of the actors in LOTR were not that well known before the movies were released, as Peter Jackson was much more concerned about getting the right people rather than getting big names Of course they still did have superstars like Ian Mckellen, Christopher Lee and Hugo fucking Weaving!

He also made them all stay in New Zealand for two years to make sure everything was done thoroughly and properly! As a result, the acting in this movie is absolutely incredible. All four of the main hobbits are played brilliantly as they go from carefree and joyful to mature and burdened by their roles in the conflict Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan have the most expressive faces! And I could go on and on, as these films are packed with star-studded performances that are well worth revisiting.

Peter Jackson knew what he was doing when he decided this film had to be filmed in New Zealand it probably helped that he is a local! Whilst some of the special effects may start to look a bit dated in time, the amazing scenery of New Zealand will look good every time you see it. The films are packed full of wide shots that show this off as well as a number of scenes filmed from the air that just look so beautiful. It really helps to create the epic nature that is so important to the LOTR world.

Add the music in and it really becomes something inspiring which really helps to flesh out all those long walking and running scenes. The music is so emotional and makes full use of a large orchestra and choir to set up the tone of the series.

There are a number of memorable themes, such as the ones used for the Ring, the Shire and for both Rohan and Gondor. There are so many of them that they even got the New Zealand army to help flesh them out with some extra computer animation on the side!

There are a number of highs and lows and a dramatic ending that creates the first bit of hope for the forces of good. The battle of Minas Tirith is even larger in scope, with many more men and orcs, fiery catapults, a wolf-headed battering ram, giant elephants and trolls and a dramatic one-on-one between the Witch King and Eowyn.

I want to see that stuff again. That would be all CGI if they did this. It feels like a heightened comic book reality. But even the The Dark Knight Jordan: The Dark Knight are chilly movies. I want to bring up another epic film that a lot of people equate with some of the finest technical craftsmanship of all time: A Space Odyssey. Is the mark of an influential movie is how often is it on TBS at 3 p. What we consider classics In the grand scheme of art, maybe it was always supposed to be disposable.

Dave: I think curation is going to be really important. He created powerful descriptions of various places. It is not easy to write detailed descriptive passages without it becoming a side issue and uninteresting. But Tolkien is the master of evoking imagery and places, which become a quintessential part of the story and book. His vivid imagination powerful conveys a range of locations from the beautiful and mystical Lothlorien to the horrors and tortures of the wastelands of Mordor.

The descriptions are so powerful we feel that we are journeying with the characters themselves. This is most relevant in the passage through Mordor, it actually becomes one of the harder passages to read because of its nearly unremitting darkness. Lord of the Rings has amazing character coherence and development. We all want to be like them in our dreams. You will fell in love with them by the end of it. The intensity of their personality will pull you towards them, you get attached to them.

You feel sad when they feel sad, you get goosebumps when something exciting happens. The story has an amazing, almost unique, and greatly established philosophical, philological, and mythological background world legends and religion creating a coherent internal belief system and philosophy thus rendering anything impossible in our world completely plausible in story world.

The huge, widespread story taking place in an even wider world where many plotlines are hidden from view but can be fully imagined in response to the main story.

It is also about hobbits, small creatures, Gollum, trees, nature. The story attracts you and you wish to be part of it. The trilogy was an incredible success at the box office, and with audiences and critics. Those nerdy books you read when you were a teenager became the hottest parts of popular culture. I remember people being taken aback at the three to three-and-a-half hour runtimes for each film; now, binge watching a ten-hour television show feels commonplace.

They happened at the right moment, providing this massive cultural experience that only properties such as Star Wars or Star Trek had to that point provided. While the series performed well at the box office, it never had the same impact on the world as the films that would precede it. Moreover, these were films that never should have worked: they were massive in scale, were based on novels that were half a century old, and above all, were great films.
