Likely, they will dump everyone into the classic statis realm which hamstrings updates and nothing meaningful would ever be changed to attract a sustainable and reliable player base. I would be shocked seeing if blizzard would bother lifting a finger.
You know they do have more than 1 game right? I would implement one of the servers like this. Let's call it Chromie's Nightmare. Imagine people start at the beginning, but they find themselves in the middle of Chromie's dream.
It's a regular classic server, but no one knows, when Chromie gonna wake up, wiping all the progress and starting the server anew. Find your World of Warcraft account. Sign up for the PTR. After clicking on your World of Warcraft account, you will open up a page to manage it. On this page you will see information about your WoW account, including your subscription renewal date. Download the PTR client. After making the choice, you will begin to download a file.
The PTR client is too large to download through a website, so it is done through this file. Once you finish downloading the file, run it and it will automatically install the PTR client on your computer. After you have installed the PTR client, you can open it through the Battle. Part 2. Go to the PTR Service page. As described earlier, log onto Battle. Since the PTR is a test realm, there may be weeks or even months where the character transfer service is unavailable.
In these cases your only option will be to create a new character Part 3. Click the character you want to transfer. It may take some time for the character transfer to complete. The transfer will not affect your character on regular WoW servers in any way.
While characters on the PTR can be created at level 90, they will not have the same items or professions that your regular characters may have. You are limited to transferring a certain number of characters to the PTR for each testing phase. The limit is set by the developers during each testing phase.
