Can you translate the koran

The self-made leaders, and the self-proclaimed holy men, always remind us never to try to understand the Quran from another source, nor do they teach it themselves!

They dont even have an approved translation of the Quran themselves, so that we might derive some guidance. We are so much away from the clear guidance of the Holy Quran, that without realizing, we are actually guilty of the sin, which Allah has sworn in the Quran never to forgive!

Not once, but probably in most Surahs of the Holy Quran! And if we were to die in this state of ignorance of the guidance of the Quran, we will have nobody to blame except ourselves in the Court of Allah.

We owe it to our Creator to at least give the guidance and the teachings of the Holy Quran one hearing. After you have done that, then you decide yourself who is on the Right Path, and who is astray.

May Allah guide you and us all to the Straight Path of Islam. May Allah bless you, your comments and questions are always welcome and Insha Allah, we will try to address them as soon as we possibly can.

Brother, my only request to you on a personal basis is to give the words of Allah a chance! Give them one hearing, and after you have read the Holy Quran with understanding once, you can choose your way of life. But at least give the Holy Quran a chance! Brother, we read so many books, so many magazines, so many articles, so many newspapers; but we just do not have the conviction or the time to read these odd pages, which are the very words of our Lord and Creator.

He has sent us this message for our guidance, but we want to be of those who just follow some self-made leaders blindly and believe the proceedings of the Day of Judgement are their problem. Brother, every person will be responsible only for himself, and Allah will not ask us about anybody else! All I am asking you as your brother in Islam, is to read the Holy Quran with understanding, once.

You choose any author and any language to understand the Quran, and I assure you that the basic meaning and message will never change. Allah created us muslims as one community or Ummah, and some unscrupulous people have been successful in breaking this great Ummah into small sects and creeds! I swear by Allah, we are not guiding you to any sect or any creed our only invitation is for the brothers and sisters to read the Holy Quran with understanding, and become muslims in the true sense of the word.

Allah is my witness, I do not belong to any creed or sect or madhab or anything else which breaks this Ummah of ours. Brother, I do not know you personally in this world, but I pray to Allah, that He make us known to each other on the Day of Judgment as brothers. We do not ask for any reward, nor thanks, nor appreciation for our service in running this forum.

Our reward is with the Lord of the Worlds We pray and hope that He will accept our humble service in His Cause and forgive us our sins on the Day, when nothing but His Mercy will be between us going to the ever-lasting Fire of Hell, or the eternal Gardens of Bliss.

May Allah bless you and your family and guide you and us all to the Right Path. Brother, this knowledge is not something that just effects us, but it is a legacy we leave to our children and our progeny until the end of time. If, Allah forbid, we do not guide them from the guidance of the Holy Quran, and we let the unscrupulous self-made leaders guide them away from the Quran, they will hold our hand in front of Allah and say that we guided them to the wrong path!

May the Peace, Blessings and Mercy of Allah be upon you and your family. May Allah keep you and your family in His infinite Mercy and Protection. May Allah guide you and us to read and understand the simple and plain words of the Glorious Quran. May Allah increase our knowledge from the Holy Quran. May Allah guide us to the Siraat al Mustaqeem. Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.

Let me pick my own translator. Is it in any way comparable with the "pen". Ruling on fasting for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Burhan, Comments on your response: No one is authorized to translate the Qur'an. Today we are left with four choices regarding the Quran, if Arabic is not our first language: Leave the guidance of the Quran, and make our own laws or follow our own whims and conjecture.

One of the recipients was Hercules, the Byzantine emperor. The Prophet knew that this would happen, yet he had nothing against it. How can an act done and sanctioned by the Prophet be considered blasphemous? However, many have translated it into a large number of languages. In English there are scores of its translations, some by Muslim scholars and a few by non-Muslims.

No scholar worthy of note has objected. Therefore, it is liable to error. Translations into other languages may have errors.

Many are of moderate length. Learn More. Ahmed Mossad El-Saba. Ahmed has extensive experience in handling large volume translation projects for software and document localization.

He has worked for a range of translation and localization companies including Microsoft, Babylon, Saudisoft, as well as several governmental authorities. He holds a B. He is a published author translating news articles and writing political analysis with contributions to an array of research centers and newspapers including AL Aharam, Beirut Political Centre, Aldiplomasy Magazine, and Lindro Italian News, to name a few.

When in their insolence they transgressed all prohibitions, We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected. The behaviour of the fish is fundamentally different in the translations by Muhammad Asad and Yusuf Ali, which suggests that Talal Itani has translated this incorrectly.

I cannot be definitive, as I cannot read the Arabic for myself. It is impossible for both variants to be correct. This should not be taken as a criticism of Itani's translation overall, as all translators are human and capable of error. I particularly commend the clarity of Talal Itani's English, and his generosity in making the full translation available free on the internet. In passing I am conscious that Muslim anti-Semites often refer to Jews as being descended from apes and pigs, and I condemn such abuse.

In my presentation, I gave Muhammad Asad's explanation of the text translated above. That explanation is reproduced below:. According to Zamakhshari and Razi, the expression "We said unto them" is here synonymous with "We decreed with' regard to them" - God's "saying" being in this case a metonym for a manifestation of His will. As for the substance of God's decree, "Be as apes despicable" , the famous tabi'i Mujahid explain it thus: "[Only] their hearts were transformed, that is, they were not [really] transformed into apes: this is but a metaphor mathal coined by God with regard to them, similar to the metaphor of 'the ass carrying books' []" Tabari, in his commentary on ; also Manar I, ; VI, ; and IX, A similar explanation is given by Raghib.

It should be borne in mind that the expression "like an ape" is often used in classical Arabic to describe a person who is unable to restrain his gross appetites or passions. The title page and the introduction does not name the translator, but right at the back she is named on a page which gives more details about Saheeh International and references its website www.

In she moved to Saudi Arabia, and has taught classes in tafseer and basic fiqh at the Islamic Cultural Center in Jeddah since Her precise translation skills and effective writing style has gained her an impressive reputation appreciated by a dedicated reading audience. The Saheeh International translation is often used for Islamic missionary activities, and I have seen it being given away free to passers by at a London Underground station.

I assume the reason is that bulk copies are supplied free or at very low cost from Saudi Arabia. As explained on my page "Teaching Muslims religious intolerance" I find this translation very problematical. In my opinion it deviates significantly from the quality translations named above, and promotes an interpretation of Islam that is extremely hostile to other religions.

Arthur John Arberry was a British orientalist with expert knowledge of Arabic and experience in the Middle East, although not a convert to Islam. In the introduction, Arberry reminds us of the Quran that "from the earliest times orthodox opinion has rigidly maintained that it is untranslatable, a miracle of speech which it which it would be blasphemous to attempt to imitate" and then goes on to mention briefly the previous English translations of Sale , Rodwell , Palmer , Pickthall , and Bell I bought a copy in spring , and read it in full 48 years later during Ramadan It is very readable, having no footnotes.

Because Quran translations have moved on since , I don't recommend it as a first Quran to read see Haleem's translation above , but recommend it highly as one to read later if you just want to read the Quran in English rather than use it for detailed study see " The Study Quran " above.

In passing, I do not regard Arberry's use of "Koran" as improper, since at the time he was writing that was a common transliteration into English, even though that is no longer the case. The Disqus comments facility below allows you to comment on this page.
